The Joy of Tea

There is so much to say about tea. It is said to make one healthy, beautiful and smart.  Evidence exists that it helps to prevent cancer, lose weight, lower cholesterol, slow the aging process and aid digestion.  The classical poet Chiao-Jen of the T’ang Dynasty had this to say about tea:

A friend from Yueh presented me

With tender leaves of Yen-Shi tea,

For which I chose a kettle

Of ivory-mounted gold,

A mixing-bowl of snow-white earth.

With its clear bright froth and fragrance,

It was like the nectar of the Immortals.

The first bowl washed the cobwebs from my mind –

The whole world seemed to sparkle.

A second cleaned my spirit

Like purifying showers of rain.

A third and I was one with the Immortals.

Health Benefits of Tea:

Tea has a concentrated dose of healthy vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, including:

Vitamin E, Vitamin B, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Selenium, Vitamin K, Potassium, Catechins, Polysaccharides,Fluroide, Manganese, Amino Acids, Flavonoids

Tea helps to Prevent Cancer :

Green tea contains high concentrates of organic compounds—known as polyphenols, believed to prevent cancer.  Polyphenols, most notably catechins, are strong antioxidants that protect the body from free radical damage.

Tea helps to prevent cardiovascular disease:

Tea promotes a healthy heart and vascular system by helping to control cholesterol, blood pressure and weight.  Green tea lowers cholesterol by helping the body excrete more and absorb less LDL the “bad” cholesterol.

Tea combats bacteria and viruses and promotes healthy teeth

Drinking green tea may prevent common bacterial and viral illnesses by strengthening the immune system with antioxidants in the tea.  The fluoride in green tea hardens tooth enamel to help prevent cavities.
